Microchip Pet Identification

Braelinn Animal Hospital offers microchipping for your pet. If you look around your neighborhood, see community billboards, or use social media, there are always new flyers or notifications regarding missing or found pets with no identification. Tags and collars can tear, break, or otherwise fail. Microchipping is an inexpensive, highly-effective, and tamper-free way to identify your pet and help ensure that they are returned to you should they ever be lost or stolen.

Microchipping your pet is relatively painless. A tiny chip is inserted with a needle between the shoulder blades. Your pet may feel the same discomfort as they would a normal injection, if they feel anything at all. The chip itself is non-toxic and contained in a tiny, smooth capsule. Once injected, you will register your pet and contact information with the microchipping company. Microchips last the life of your pet with no maintenance required.

Should your pet get lost, anyone who finds them can take them to a veterinary clinic or animal shelter to be scanned by a special reader. The registered chip has a unique number that is linked to your pet’s registration and your contact information. Once identified, you will be contacted, usually by the veterinarian who scanned your pet. Make an appointment with your Braelinn Animal Hospital, veterinarian if you would like to microchip your pet.
